Back to Good Hair Days
A 26-year-old patient, Miss G, working as an Engineer in a Corporate, came to us with the main complaints of Excessive Hair Fall, Degraded Hair Quality and Fizzy hair. She was a Physically active person with Regular Running & Sports as a part of her daily Schedule. She ate home-cooked meals with little to no junk food in her diet. She came to us with the concern that she had been taking care of everything in her capacity, but her hair quality kept on degrading.
As our Analysis began, we found out that she was a Pitta-dominant Prakriti Person. She had recently moved to Chennai for her job and was extremely uncomfortable in the Hot & Humid Climate there. Her Hunger patterns, Menstrual flow, Stool quality, Skin texture, and many other Characteristics revealed that she had Pitta Vikriti in her body, for which, her Pitta-dominant Prakriti and the extreme hot Weather Conditions had been the Primary reasons.
Our Guna Analysis revealed that Ushna & Teeksha Gunas of Pitta Dosha had aggravated, gradually reducing the complimentary Gunas of the Kapha Dosha in the body. This then led to a relatively higher proportion of Vata Dosha, as compared to the reduced Kapha Dosha, increasing dryness and frizziness in hair. Though Pitta aggravation was in the entire body, it had localised in the Head region causing hair fall. She had also complained of experiencing scanty and disturbed sleep during this time which again shows Pitta Vikriti & relative Vata increase in the head region.
The Patient’s diet and Lifestyle habits were not of much concern. But a Pitta-aggravating Exercise Regime was not working in favour of her under the given circumstances. No changes were made in this regard as the patient was unwilling to accept that this could have any impact on her hair health. The patient was also unwilling to accept much changes in her diet. Her Stress levels were manageable both at work and home.
A Pitta-Pacifying, along with localised Vata reducing treatment Protocol was adopted: Localised Abhyanga with Oil containing Pitta-pacifying herbs like Bhringaraj etc. was prescribed to pacify both Pitta & Vata Dosha in the Head Region. Bhringaraj also comes under the Category of Keshya (Hair Tonic) and provides extra nourishment to the Scalp. Nasya Karma with the same oil as above was prescribed to reduce excess Vata in the Head Region. Medicine containing Pitta-Pacifying herbs was given to reduce the Overall Pitta in the Body. Since scanty & disturbed Sleep can be very detrimental for the hair health, a herbal formulation was prescribed to improve Sleep Quality. To not further damage her hair follicles, we recommended her to stop using her Synthetic Shampoo and to start using our herbal Powder as Hair Cleanser. Certain basic Dietary Modifications were also introduced, most of which the patient was already aware of, but started doing them only now. As a part of the Program, the patient was recommended to join the Group Yoga Sessions, twice a week.
After 2 weeks of following the Regime with almost 80% efficiency, the patient could see significant changes in her hair quality. Her hair strands looked smooth and thicker. And she could see improvement every single day. The oils were cooling, grounding & nourishing and the Hair Cleanser did not strip off the natural oil from the Hair strands leaving them look Plump. Her Sleep quality started to improve from the 1st week itself and she observed glow in her fascial skin too. To our Surprise, she had started to attend all Yoga Sessions and said that she was finding the Yoga Practice more calming and Cooling. After 1 month of Treatment, all her complaints of hair were almost gone except for hair fall which had reduced but was still higher than normal.
To control the hair fall, patient continued for another month and could see 50% reduction is hair fall. But due to her work commitments, she had to relocate and could not continue with the Therapy for the next 5 months. She rejoined us last week and the therapy has again begun. This Case Study will be updated upon completion of the Therapy.
